Il fait un apprentissage de mécanicien-électricien, puis une formation d’ingénieur HES. Christian Fracheboud siège au Conseil général depuis 2009 et en a assumé la Présidence de 2009 à 2012. Président de la commission de gestion du Conseil général, Christian Fracheboud est également Député au Grand Conseil. Il est chef expert pour la profession de Dessinateur-Constructeur Industriel CFC et membre du comité Valais Solidaire.
